Keeping House is a partnership programme sponsored by Leeds City Council Adult Social Care. Its
main aim is to help older people and disabled people in Leeds to maintain their independence in their own home for as long as possible.
It is developing new ways for people to find reliable and affordable domestic services such as cleaning, shopping or gardening. The central idea is for these services to be run as social enterprises, charging for work done but putting any profit back into the business for the benefit of the community and those using the services.
As part of its work, Keeping House distributes quarterly a ‘providers’ list’ of organisations (private firms, social enterprises and charitable organisations) that offer these domestic services. The list details what areas the individual providers cover and how much they charge. There is also information about quality and trustworthiness.
You can find out more about Keeping House including the providers’ list on the website www.keepinghouse.org.uk
The Keeping House partnership board has now agreed its development plan for 2008- 2013. This
charts the way to becoming an independent organisation, the Keeping House Foundation, in 2010.
The first step in our development plan is for the local authority to contract out the Keeping House Directory (the providers’ list) and the work on the Quality Standard. The tender procedure is underway and the contract will be advertised in June 2008.
There is to be an information seminar for those who may be interested in tendering for this contract
