Welcome to the first Kirklees Social Enterprise Link Newsletter for 2007. The New Year brings new challenges as well as bad weather, but the ever changing world of social enterprise continues to grow and develop; wind, rain or shine!
Why not kick start 2007 by heading along to a seminar, workshop or networking event; the majority are Free to attend and provide excellent points of reference for organisations working in and with all sectors of social enterprise.

Funding
Local Network Fund for Children and Young people – Briefings and outreach in West Yorkshire
Grants of £250 - £7,000 are available from the Local Network Fund to voluntary and community groups in West Yorkshire, who are working with children and young people up to the age of 19.
- Fit4Funding run free briefing sessions to help you;
- Find out if your group is eligible and by when you need to apply
- Know what activities, events, costs the fund might pay for
- Know how to make an application and what to include
- Know who to go to for health and support

Policy Changes in the NHS: Are you up to date?

Gill Collinson Director of Strategic Leadership Development at the Centre of the Development of Healthcare Policy and Practice will discuss changes within the Healthcare Sector and how they affect social enterprises. These changes will have a direct impact on social enterprises across West Yorkshire and will also provide new business opportunities.
There will also be chance to gain procurement and commissioning advice from the Social Enterprise Link advisor team.

Working in Youth Services Event 9th February, National Children’s Centre, Huddersfield, 10am -1pm
This event is targeted for those already working in and with Youth services, Sports, Arts and Construction but organisations from any sector are welcome to attend.
Topics that will be covered on the day will include;
- Running a mentoring programme,
- Procurement
- CRB checks
- Working with schools
- Engaging with young people through sport
- Construction skills
- The arts.
This will be an excellent opportunity for networking with other organisations from similar and completely different sectors and looking at ways of working with and engaging young people.

Faith Matters
A practical half day introduction looking at:
- Why it is important to know about the region’s faith communities
- Key implications of the equality legislation
- Examples of good practice
- Action steps for the future
The seminar is suitable for anyone wishing to acquire a good general awareness of the different faiths, build partnerships and work more closely with people of different faith backgrounds. The seminar will be delivered by three trainers from a multi-faith training team.
The seminar aims to;
Highlight and give real examples of the distinctions between faith, religion, spirituality, race and ethnicity, and the ways in which we can all use this knowledge and use it in our daily lives
Encourage and inspire delegates to disseminate and use the information contained and in the guide “Understanding Faiths”.

Tender Readiness Toolkit Workshop
January 26th 2007 10am – 12.30pm, Croft Myl, West Parade, Halifax, HX1 2EQ
If you need an organisational health check before seeking contracts this is probably the most useful DVD you can get your hands on. View a demonstration of the toolkit and seek professional advice about your organisation’s capacity to deliver new contracts.
The workshop/DVD includes:
- A where now? Flowchart of possible options/scenarios
- Management information tool to monitor projects/contracts
- Comprehensive assessment of staff skills and aptitude
- An evidence check list of policy statements, quality assessment, financial requirements and sector specific criteria

Excellent communications and interpersonal skills will therefore be essential to this role and must possess special interest in facilitating creative or therapeutic activities.
